Overall, I had a great experience carp fishing (on a lake called ‘The Pits’) at Starcarr Lakes, plucking out an 18lb 3oz on a snowman rig.
There are a good head of carp in this gravel pit, with a lot of upper doubles to be caught.

Each swim also has its own parking space and private pod (no need for a bivvy).
The depth of the carp lake ranges from 3 feet to 9 feet deep, making it perfect for all levels of carp anglers.
On site toilets are available, as well as secure gates that are locked each evening.

The carp here grow to an impressive 30 pounds, while the Wells catfish reach an even bigger 50 pounds if you fancy trying for those.

There are only ten fishing pegs available at Oakland waters, so it’s important to book in advance if you want to guarantee a spot, especially on weekends and bank holidays.
