Why Buy The Black Widow G50

With a Daiwa Black Widow G50 in your hand, you can be confident you’re using one of the best budget carp rods on the market.

Daiwa has been making quality fishing tackle for over 50 years, and the Black Widow G50 is a perfect example of their dedication to creating products that anglers can rely on.

Made from high quality materials, the rod is aesthetically pleasing and with a great mix of power and performance, you will not find a better carp rod at this price point.

Black Widow G50 Features

When I first held this rod, it felt balanced and controlled as I held the rod up vertically for a ‘fake cast’ (I could not resist) to test how quickly it snapped back into place!

It uses Daiwa’s HVF (High Volume Fibre) carbon in the Black Widow G50’s construction to give it incredible strength, power and durability for such a budget rod.

This also makes it one of the lightest carp rods in Daiwa’s range, allowing you to cast and reel with ease, no matter how large the fish you’re targeting.

Moving down the rod, I noticed a DPS style reel seat that accommodates most reels and Daiwa has even included an EVA grip, allowing you to handle the rod with ease.

Talking about the handle – which is fully shrink wrapped by the way, it gripped really well – even with wet hands which allows you to get a better sense of how good a rod grips as opposed to just looking at the handle!

As I glanced up the rod, the rings looked solid, and on further inspection, they are actually LS ceramic rings, so you know they won’t crack very easily at all.

One finally feature to mention is the presence of 50mm butt guides – but these are not present on the smaller 10ft long G50 rod.

Here is a recap of our review of the features:

Daiwa Black Widow G50 Field Test

I took the Daiwa Black Widow G50 carp rod out on to a local lake to see how it fared in real-world conditions.

For my first few casts, I used 15lb mainline with a size 6 hook and I have to say, this rod had no issues casting my rig out to where I wanted it to go.

The action was smooth and precise, and I was able to make long, accurate casts with ease.

Once my bait was in position, it wasn’t long before I started getting bites, and the Daiwa Black Widow G50 handled them all with ease.

Whether I was landing small carp or a carp around the 20lb mark, the rod performed brilliantly, giving me the power and control I need to land each fish successfully.

I was really impressed with how well the Daiwa Black Widow G50 carp rod performed and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a high-quality, affordable carp rod.

If you’re looking for a great value carp rod that performs well above its price point, then the Daiwa Black Widow G50 is definitely worth considering.

Recommended Reel

This rod is so versatile – so there are plenty of carp reel options available.

But as usual, its good practice to pop into your local tackle shop and hook it up with a reel to get a true feel for balance.

However, our recommended rod and reel pairing is the Shimano Baitrunner ST 6000 RB because it offers great balance, feel and overall, is a great setup.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a budget carp rod that can handle both light and heavyweight catches, the Daiwa Black Widow G50 is definitely worth considering.

With its high-quality construction and great performance, this is one of the best rods on the market at this price point.

I feel this is a great entry level carp rod setup that won’t break the bank or let you down whatever venue you choose to fish.

Give the Daiwa Black Widow G50 a try and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
